Wow, this is actually a tough one to write but it needs to be done. I am not sure if it is too late or that the pendulum is just swinging hard but Holy hell society as a whole has taken a huge shit! Here is what I mean…

Michael and I went out for dinner last night to a local restaurant. First off, shame on us for attempting this on a Saturday night at 7pm but we did. We had and hour and 10 minutes to sit, wait and observe the patrons of said restaurant. Let me fill you in on a few details. This restaurant is about a $18 a head place, full bar and fun atmosphere. One would THINK one would dress appropriately for such a place. Here is where the rant starts.

Where has people’s self respect gone? Fucking flip flops to a fine restaurant? I would NEVER have let me in. It was embarrassing to see. More details. We are sitting there waiting for our table and this group of High Schoolers come out from eating, all wearing formals. Clearly there was a big dance that night. This girl was wearing a beautiful purple dress, hair done and her date was in a suit. Then I saw her feet. OMG! I can not believe that poor kid had to take her out looking like that. It was so disrespectful I could hardly stand it. No respect for the boy, no dignity or self respect for herself. She was blurting out to the world, I so don’t give a shit about myself or the boy who is spending his hard earned money on me I am going to slip into some summer flops, that will show them all how little I care. Sorry sweetheart, no one thought it was cute or a cool “statement”. You ruined a perfectly perfect dress on being a lazy turd. This leads to the next problem that came from last nights observances…

Manners. What are those? well apparently most people do not posses them any more. Shame on the parents not teaching their children but even more disgusting are the adults with none. I watched couple after couple walk into this restaurant, having the door held for them and they did what? NOTHING. Not a smile, nor a glance of acknowledgment. So sad. I saw one guy let a door smack a women behind him in the face. He never even turned around. Have we become so self absorbed and down right jack assish (my own word) LOL, that we care so little for our fellow man that we behave this way and treat one another like this? I refuse.

The point about the clothing choices….simple. When you take the time to look decent and put together when you go in public, it shows self respect. This is important. You want to be successful, dress successful. Dress like a slob, be a slob. I am all for comfy clothes, but shoot wear them when at home, not to a nice restaurant or public gathering spot. I fear for our young especially when the more mature folks who should be role models are no better.

I was beginning to think I was just bitter or being too harsh until I did some research..

Americans certainly lack manners in this day and age. It is disheartening to go in public and see the behavior of our culture. It is also embarrassing. If I had ever been so bold as to step out of line, or not say thank you as a child, I would have been in serious trouble. Maybe this is an old school issue. But, seriously how many people know the words “excuse me”? Children are not taught to be polite or respectful any more. Now parents seem to enjoy attitude. Adults are increasingly bolder, more outspoken and opinionated and certainly lacking in manners also. CONTINUED

Another articles opinion on the same subject…

He believes that the worst thing about the modern world is that people don’t have good manners any more, and even though he admits he “only learnt the guitar to get the chicks”, he says he always opens a door for a lady because “deference to the fairer sex is a good thing”.  CONTINUED

I am certianly not speaking for any one city, state (though I was not in my home state when this occured) or resturant for that matter. I see this every where and it is getting worse. Clean up America. Show some respect to your mate, to yourself and to others. Be kind and considerate to each other. Take a second to realize it is not just about you. A simple gesture of kindness and thoughtfullness goes a long way. If everyday we each did one considerate thing for someone else, we would slowly return to a civilized society….one can dream.
